Google’s upcoming self-branded smartphones, the Google Pixel 2/2 XL, will be officially announced on 4 October. Ahead of its big reveal, we now get a full view of the duo thanks to none other than Evan Blass. These are the successors of last year’s Google Pixel/Pixel XL and they are manufactured by HTC and LG. As you would expect, both would be running on the very latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
Similar to last year, the Pixel 2 comes in two sizes. The smaller Pixel 2 gets a 5″ full HD display with a more standard 16:9 display aspect ratio. Instead of the rumoured Snapdragon 836, it will run on the current flagship favourite, the Snapdragon 835. The Pixel 2 will get 4GB of RAM with a choice of either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.
As seen in the frontal shot, it would have front-firing stereo speakers. Over at the back, it retains a 12MP main camera which is likely to offer more camera tricks to up its photography game. Since the Pixel 2 is made by HTC, it looks like you’ll be able to squeeze the Pixel 2 for your Google assistant.
The star of the series is the bigger Pixel 2 XL. It will feature a larger 6″ QuadHD+ AMOLED display in an 18:9 aspect ratio. As seen above, it features a more edge to edge display with rounded corners like most new flagship smartphones today.
Here’s a clearer image by @evleaks and you can see that they have managed to fit a pair of front-facing stereo speakers. The rest of the specs are similar to the Pixel 2 as it will be running on a Snapdragon 835 with 4GB of RAM and a choice of either 64GB and 128GB of storage. If you look at the interface, it looks like the Pixel launcher has been updated as well with the Google Search bar now moved to the bottom. Below is another angle of the Pixel 2 XL with a case installed.
In terms of pricing, Droid Life suggests that the Pixel 2 would be priced from US$649 (about RM2,754) for 64GB and US$749 (about RM3,178) for 128GB. Meanwhile, the Pixel 2 XL is expected to be priced at US$849 (about RM3,602) for 64GB and US$949 (about RM4,027) for 128GB.
Evan Blass added that the Pixel 2 is expected to be released first, beginning 19 October while the Pixel 2 XL would be rolled out later beginning 15 November 2017.
