Is this the Huawei Nova 2i?

Before Huawei announces its new Mate 10 flagship, the Chinese smartphone maker will be unveiling a new mid-range smartphone that comes with four cameras.

In China, it’s going to be called the Mai Mang 6 and it will be unveiled this coming Friday, 22 September. Shortly after that, Huawei Malaysia is launching the nova 2i on the following week. Are these two phones the same? Here’s a closer look at what the Nova 2i might look like.

It isn’t uncommon to see Huawei and honor sharing the same phones with different naming in various markets. The phone you’re seeing above is the Maimang 6 as leaked by Evan Blass a couple of days ago. Featuring an all-metal body, it is speculated to be called the Huawei G10 outside of China but now @evleaks says that this phone might also be called the Huawei Mate 10 lite.

If you look into the alleged specs, it shares a lot of similarities. Firstly, the screen is has a 18:9 display aspect ratio and it also features dual-cameras for both front and back. According to its TENAA certification, the front display is a 5.9″ Full HD+ unit that pushes 2160 x1080 resolution.

Powering the device is a mid-range Kirin 659 processor that’s mated to 4GB of RAM, which are also found on their current Nova 2 Plus. It also gets 64GB of storage that’s also expandable via microSD.

In terms of camera, the certification listing suggests a 16MP main camera with a secondary 2MP shooter at the rear. For selfies, it also carries a dual camera combo with 13MP + 2MP cameras. As a comparison, the Nova 2 Plus comes with a 12MP + 8MP setup for the rear, while the front gets a 20MP selfie shooter. Juicing up the device is a 3,240mAh battery which is slightly less than the Nova 2 Plus’ 3,340mAh unit.

From the looks of it, this Maimang 6 could be the Nova 2i that’s heading to Malaysia next week. This is Huawei’s first all-screen smartphone and it gives us a glimpse of what to expect from their upcoming Mate 10 flagship smartphone.
