After teasing it earlier, Uber Malaysia has finally launched their new uberTAXI feature, which is pretty self-explanatory, and a second new feature called uberFLASH.
With uberTAXI, riders can now request taxi services through the Uber app. This includes sedans and MPVs and prices will be based on the taxi’s meter, though, the company does say that it may be subject to “dynamic pricing in times of high demand”. However, riders can still pay through the application, which is nice.
Uber also ensures its riders that they’re committed to “ensuring a quality experience” for everyone and that they will maintain the “high standards you’re used to when it comes to driver-partners and vehicles allowed on the app”. This means all the features you’d normally be used to receiving in the application — like two-way rating system and customer support — will also apply to uberTAXI. They add that the drivers will have to pass a background check before they’re allowed on the platform.
The second new feature is uberFLASH. What this feature essentially allows you to do, is to get a ride as quickly as possible. Much like Grab’s Flash feature, uberFLASH will basically connect riders to the closest drivers available, regardless of whether its an uberX or a taxi on the platform. This should technically mean shorter wait times, but at the end of the day it really depends on where you are.
With these new features, the Uber app has also received a little tweak. Now, on the main page you get a choice of uberFLASH, uberX and Uber BLACK. To get to uberXL and uberTAXI, you’ll have to swipe left.
Uber is available for download in the Play Store and the App Store.
