Would you pay RM5,200 for the Samsung Galaxy Note8?

The launch of (probably) the most anticipated Android smartphone yet is just around the corner. Samsung’s Galaxy Note8 has a lot riding on its shoulders after the disaster that was its predecessor, and from the looks of things, is poised to deliver a truly stunning flagship smartphone experience.

However, all that high-end technowizardry will obviously come with a price and if this latest leak is to be believed, that price tag will be pretty high.

A report published on website IT Home seems to reveal the leaked Chinese prices for the Samsung Galaxy Note8 smartphone. It will allegedly come in three variants with different storage configurations. The base model will apparently sport 64GB of internal storage and be priced at CNY6,288 (around RM4,040). Moving up to the 128GB version, the price becomes CNY7,088 (around RM4,554) while the top spec phone with 256GB of internal storage will apparently be priced at CNY7,988 (around RM5,132).

With that kind of money, you will be getting a Snapdragon 835/Exynos 8895 processor with 6GB of RAM and a 3,300 mAh battery inside. In front, is the star of the show, where you’ll have a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity display pushing an eye-popping 2960×1440 pixels. At the back, Samsung is also upgrading the camera to a dual 12MP camera system with OIS at the back where one shoots regular and the other does telephoto with apertures of f/1.7 and f/2.4 lenses respectively.

You can also expect IP68 water resistance, USB Type-C and, of course, the S Pen in this year’s Note8 too. More details on the specs can be found here.

It is worth noting that these price tags are unconfirmed and could also vary quite substantially with the local prices you can expect to pay. All will of course be revealed very soon so stay tuned to for the juicy details as we will be reporting straight from the launch event in New York.
