Could this be Xiaomi’s second attempt at a bezel-less phone?

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

The Mi MIX is an impressive device. It was one of the first smartphones to push for a bezel-less design with an impressive 91.3% screen to body ratio.

During its announcement late last year, Xiaomi called the Mi MIX their concept smartphone but surprisingly, it is a product that you can actually buy. Now it appears that a new one is on its way, as designer Philippe Starck had shared an interesting clip of its next successor.

Based on the video, it seems that the new Mi MIX 2 would have even thinner bezels than before. The curve corners makes it look like a Galaxy S8 or LG’s new V30. Unlike other “full screen” devices today, the Mi MIX 2 stretches its display all the way to the top which means there’s no space left for any earpiece, proximity sensors or a front facing camera.

Instead, the selfie cam is placed at the bottom, which means that you’ll need to rotate the phone 180-degrees if you plan on taking a selfie. To subsitute the earpiece speaker, the current Mi MIX uses a piezoelectric ceramic acoustic system which vibrates to emit sound and we believe this similar technology would be used on the Mi MIX 2.

For now, this looks like a conceptual design but we won’t be surprised if this is close to the real deal since Xiaomi has managed to create a product as impressive as the Mi MIX. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can read our full Mi MIX review.
