The new Moto X isn’t the same flagship that you used to know

Based on Motorola’s roadmap for 2017, a new Moto X series smartphone will be making its debut this year. This is supposedly Motorola’s premium design device that uses 3D glass at the rear.

Ahead of its official announcement, the folks at Android Authority have managed to get some exclusive info on this upcoming Moto smartphone. If you’re hoping that this would replace your old Moto X, you might be in for a disappointment.

As seen on the picture above, the Moto X4 uses predominantly glass for both front and back with some shimmery effect like the honor flagship series. According to Android Authority, the Moto X4 will get a 5.2″ Full HD display and it comes only in Super Black or Sterling Blue.

Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 630 processor and there are up to 4 different variants for different markets. In certain markets, it comes with a 3GB RAM + 32GB configuration while Asia Pacific will get a Moto X4 with higher-spec 4GB RAM + 64GB storage option.

In the imaging department, the Moto X4 will come with a dual-camera setup at the rear. Its main camera is said to be a 12MP f/2.0 dual autofocus pixel shooter while the secondary lens comes with an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide shooter with a 120-degree field of view. For selfies, it gets a 16MP f/2.0 front camera that comes with an adaptive low light mode.

Powering the Moto X4 is a non-removable 3,000mAh battery which will support Motorola’s TurboCharging feature. For added protection, it will also come with IP68 dust and water resistance.

Unlike previous Moto X models, this new one appears to be a mid-range smartphone built with premium materials. Despite that, the new Snapdragon 600 series processors are much better than before as it tries to close the gap with its more powerful siblings. The Snapdragon 630 processor is said to be 10% faster than the current Snapdragon 625 and it also supports QuickCharge 4.0 fast charging.

For those looking for a real Moto flagship with a Snapdragon 800 series processor might want to wait for the Moto Z2. Recently, they had announce its shatterproof Moto Z2 Force but it is currently available only at selected markets.
