Xiaomi will be launching a new dual-camera smartphone in India very soon and there’s a big chance that this could be the international variant of the Mi 5X. To refresh your memory, the Mi 5X is Xiaomi’s mid-range device that comes with a similar dual-camera setup as the Mi 6.
The VP of Xiaomi India had officially tweeted the update but without mentioning which model. For this year, Xiaomi had introduced two dual-camera smartphones, the Mi 6 and the Mi 5X which both offers 2X Optical Zoom.
Could it be the Mi 6? Last we heard is that the flagship device won’t be coming to India as they would be focusing more on their affordable models. Furthermore, the Mi 6 is already on sale in Malaysia so it doesn’t make sense for them to have another big event to launch the Mi 6 at this point in time.
This leaves us to believe that this could be the international variant of the Mi 5X and we hope that it could get better specs compared to the China version. If you recall earlier, the Redmi Note 4 for international markets was launched in January this year which is about 4 months after its first debut in China. While the names are similar, the international variant is often regarded as the better version as it gets a Snapdragon 625 processor rather than a MediaTek X20 unit.
Furthermore, the Mi 5X has already gotten the green light from SIRIM so Malaysians could probably get one officially very soon. We’ll find out more next month. In China, the Mi 5X is going for 1,499CNY which is about RM959.
