Huzzah! TM has announced a partnership with what is perhaps the most popular internet streaming service in the world: Netflix.
Unfortunately, there aren’t many details surrounding this partnership beyond the date. According to TM, the company will be providing its customers easy access to Netflix by October 2017. Besides that, TM also says that their customers who “subscribe to the service will become Netflix members” and be able to “enjoy unlimited viewing of content”.
From what they’re saying, it does sound rather similar to TM’s deal with local streaming service iflix. With the iflix partnership, eligible TM customers can access iflix for free (for a set amount of time) without the need to create an account which is supposed to make things easier.
However, those who actually use the service this way know that the process is far from perfect and often quite frustrating to deal with. I personally have had my devices locked out because I’m unable to add or remove approved devices on my UniFi iflix account. There have also been instances where the auto detection and log in flat out refuse to work. In any case, we hope that if TM is able to lock down a partnership with Netflix that’s similar to their partnership with iflix, they’ll be able to iron these problems out.
On the other hand, it is also very likely that this partnership isn’t going to be like their deal with iflix at all. Netflix is arguably the more premium service so it wouldn’t really surprise anyone if TM customers still have to pay a little more for access to Netflix.
It could play out the way it does now with the BBC Player where TM Subscribers who subscribe to HyppTV’s Jumbo Pack get access to BBC’s own video streaming service. In any case, this is all still speculation because there is still so much we don’t know about this partnership. Rest assured we will keep you updated when we hear more.
