In the race towards building a smartphone with a fingerprint scanner embedded under the display, it appears that Chinese smartphone brand vivo may have beaten everyone to the punch with their upcoming Xplay 7 smartphone.
That said, this isn’t really that big of a surprise since vivo was the first to showcase this new under display biometric technology that’s based on Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor tech. But while those were prototypes based on the Xplay 6, this latest set of leaks reveals that this tech could very well be implemented as soon as the Xplay 7.
What’s more, this upcoming smartphone also features what looks like a triple camera setup at the back as well as an “all-screen” front end. While we’re not sure what the cameras at the back are for (possibly AR) if that is indeed a tri-camera module, would it mean that the Xplay 7 doesn’t come with a flash?
Beyond the leaked images and slides, there’s no further information regarding vivo’s upcoming smartphone so take all of this with a grain of salt. We also don’t know when the Xplay 7 will launch nor do we know how much it costs though it will most likely be in the high-end of the market.
Previously, Apple was rumoured to be the first to launch the in-screen fingerprint scanner with their 10th anniversary iPhone 8 but based on the recent leaks, it looks like that won’t be the case. Samsung also wasn’t able to do it for their upcoming Galaxy Note8 due to screen brightness issues so they had to settle for a rear-mounted unit instead.
