If you’ve been eyeing for an affordable compact flagship smartphone, the wait could be finally over. Xiaomi has just teased a new product launch in Malaysia and it appears to be a dual-camera smartphone. This is likely to be their Xiaomi Mi 6 that was introduced in China 3 months ago.

From the teaser, it hints that camera offers zooming capabilities and the Mi 6 is their only smartphone currently available that offers 2X optical zoom with its secondary telephoto lens. The device was also spotted on SIRIM’s certification database two months ago which is an indication that Xiaomi is bringing the device in.

UPDATE: Mi Malaysia continues its teaser which hints its processor (Snapdragon 835) and dual-camera lens at the bottom left of the image.

So far no dates were mentioned and the next subsequent teasers from Mi Malaysia should reveal more details of its local availability.

To recap on the specs, the Mi 6 has a 5.15″ Full HD display and it runs on Qualcomm’s top of the line Snapdragon 835 processor with 6GB of RAM. You have a choice of either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage which is non-expandable.

Taking its photography game up a notch is a pair of 12MP main cameras. The primary f/1.8 main camera is used for normal shots and it comes with 4-axis OIS for stabilisation. Meanwhile, the secondary f/2.6 shooter is used for 2X optical zoom. Over at the front, the Mi 6 comes with a 8MP selfie camera that comes with a host of beautification features.

Powering the Mi 6 is a 3,350mAh battery which is one of the largest in its class. It charges via USB Type-C and unfortunately, it lacks a headphone jack. A USB Type-C to 3.5mm adapter is provided but there’s also a USB Type-C headphones with active noise cancellation that is sold separately at 299CNY (about RM189).

In China, the Mi 6 is going for 2,499 CNY (about RM1,585) for the 64GB model and 2,899 CNY (about RM1,838) for the 128GB option. There’s also a more premium ceramic edition with 128GB storage that’s priced at 2,999 CNY (about RM1,902). If Xiaomi is indeed launching the Mi 6 here, this could be the most affordable Snapdragon 835 flagship smartphone that’s priced under RM2,000.

If you haven’t seen it yet, do check out our first impressions of this affordable flagship smartphone.
