Apple dropped a whole bunch of new tech at the WWDC developer conference this year ranging from brand new iMacs all the way to iOS 11. However, one of the most interesting pieces of hardware on the mobile end of the spectrum is this baby: The Apple iPad Pro 10.5″.
Here’s a detailed look at the new iPad Pro, the Apple Pencil and its new Smart Keyboard accessory.
The iPad Pro’s box is designed in classic Apple fashion, i.e., clean, minimalistic and very cool. Its front is dominated by an image of the iPad Pro so you know you’re not accidentally buying an iPhone SE.
Pop the lid and you will be greeted with the iPad Pro 10.5″. I took the time to remove the plastic so it looks just a little sexier.
Flip it over and you’ll find that our iPad Pro 10.5 is in Space Gray. There also isn’t much else in the box. But I guess with a device like the iPad Pro, less is more.
Here’s everything you will get in the box. Clockwise from left: Power brick, wall adapter, iPad Pro 10.5″, Lightning cable, documentation.
The Lightning cable is, well, a lightning cable.
Here’s some documentation.
And this is a 12W USB power adapter to charge your iPad Pro 10.5″.
Now, of course, is time for the star of the show — the iPad Pro itself.
It’s pretty much what you’d expect an iPad to look like only this one looks a little bit taller than your traditional iPad.
And that’s because Apple has done us all a favour and shaved the side bezels off a little. I really like this change because it makes viewing videos on the iPad Pro so much more satisfying.
This iPad Pro also comes with the world’s most advanced mobile display. Apple calls it Pro Motion and it has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Now it might not look very different in photos or videos, but trust us when we say it makes a world of difference.
Just simple things like swiping through your home page is a difference of night and day between this 10.5″ device and our old 9.7″ iPad Pro. It’s so buttery, in fact, that it makes the iPad Pro 9.7″ feel almost unreasonably choppy.
What’s more, this display can also intelligently adapt its refresh rate to the task at hand.
The rest of this device is standard iPad Pro — and we mean that in the best way possible because the build quality is top notch. Around the top, you will find two of the four speakers Apple built into the iPad Pro to give it stunning audio quality.
The other two are located at the bottom of the device and are flanking the iPad Pro’s Lightning port.
Rejoice! There’s still a headphone jack.
To the left of the tablet, you’ll find the iPad Pro’s connector pins.
While on the left there’s a SIM tray.
The reason there’s a SIM tray and these antenna bands is that we have the WiFi + Cellular iPad Pro 10.5″.
Also on the right are the volume rockers.
This iPad Pro 10.5″ also has a serious camera. In fact, it’s the same 12MP f/1.8 aperture camera with OIS. Best camera on a tablet?
It’s pretty similar in size to last year’s iPad Pro 9.7″.
It’s just a little bit taller and a hair wider.
This iPad Pro with 512GB of internal storage, 4GB of RAM, an Apple A10X Fusion processor, WiFi + Cellular will cost you RM4,999.
[nextpage title=”Apple Pencil & Smart Keyboard”]
This is the Apple Pencil.
It says so on the side so you don’t forget or accidentally call it the Apple Pen.
Packaging is clean and minimalistic which is excellent.
Included in the documents is an extra Pencil tip and a Lightning to Lightning adapter.
Lift up the paperwork and you will find the pencil inside in all its glory.
It’s as glossy as it looks but has a nice weight to it.
The tip isn’t soft like many styluses tend to be.
You can easily unscrew the tip and replace it with a new one.
Remove the cap on the other end and you’ll find the Lightning connector. The Apple Pencil is priced at RM449.
This is the Apple iPad Pro Smart Keyboard for the 10.5″ iPad Pro.
On one side of the cover is this water resistant material.
While the inside is lined with a soft touch fabric that feels really nice.
The Keyboard is pretty well spaced though there is hardly any click, minimal travel and no backlight.
Despite those things, the Keyboard is actually rather satisfying to type on. Fun fact, this will also work on the smaller 9.7″ iPad Pro.
The Apple Smart Keyboard is priced at RM699
