This could be why the Note 8 won’t have an in-screen fingerprint scanner

Following the big leak which suggested Apple’s iPhone 8 would feature an in-screen embedded Touch ID fingerprint scanner, many have wondered if Samsung would be able to perfect and launch that tech with the upcoming Galaxy Note 8.

Unfortunately, if this recent reveal by an “industry insider” is to be believed, it won’t and here’s why.

Apparently the big issue with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 smartphone is something as simple as screen brightness. According to this Weibo post, the area on the display which houses the embedded fingerprint scanner is noticeably brighter than the rest of the display, leaving a hotspot that Samsung apparently can’t balance out. The Weibo post suggests that it looks like a “screen burn in” effect, which definitely isn’t ideal.

Of course, this is just one of the suggested reasons and we don’t know how many others there are, but this continues to reaffirm the fact that Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 will likely see its fingerprint sensor relocated to the back like it is on the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

Especially considering the fact that a video has recently leaked on YouTube which allegedly shows us the front panels of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

We have no way of confirming if this leak is legit or not, so take this with a grain of salt.

Nevertheless, if Samsung fails to implement this technology into their handset flawlessly (we really don’t want another Note7 incident), it could be a rather bitter pill to swallow for the company if Apple manages to pull it off before them. And if the iPhone 8 leaks are to be believed, that could very well be the case.

Still, I personally would rather Samsung work on the important bits when it comes to making the Galaxy Note 8 and get the device absolutely right before launching it. We don’t really need some fancy new tech that could blow up in our faces and I believe many would be quite alright to have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor (if it’s in the right spot and not beside the camera). Most Galaxy Note fans will simply want the best Galaxy Note device Samsung can make especially after being deprived of one last year.

What about you guys though? How would you want your Note 8 to turn out? Let me know in the comments below.
