The next iPhone to come with wireless charging and better water proofing

The iPhone is turning 10 years old by the end of this month and there’s one feature which Apple has reluctant to upgrade for the longest time. Despite having excellent battery life from a relatively small battery capacity, Apple has not made any significant changes when it comes to charging.

While other smartphones are pushing faster charging and wireless charging support, Apple is still bundling a basic 1Amp power brick with its current top of the line iPhone 7 Plus. The way you charge may soon change with its upcoming iPhone due later this year.

According to the CEO of Wistron, which is one of Apple’s contracted iPhone manufacturers, the next iPhone will be coming with wireless charging built in. He has confirmed this for the 5.5″ iPhone which we presumed to be the iPhone 7s Plus.

Another interesting thing he shared was on waterproofing. The iPhone 7/7 Plus are Apple’s first iPhone with IP67 water resistance and the next one is said to be bumped up to IP68. This increment will allow better protection as IP68 is certified for submersion beyond 1 metre.

He also added that the assembly process for the new iPhones won’t change much but they would require extra testing for wireless charging and waterproofing. Apart from having a 5.5″ 7s Plus model, Apple will be announcing a smaller 7s and as well as a premium model that’s expected to be called the iPhone 8. If you haven’t seen it yet, here are some purported leaked photos of the upcoming iPhone 7s/iPhone 8.

Apple won’t be first to introduce wireless charging on a smartphone but we would definitely want to see if they could do wireless charging better than the rest. We hope this time they could include a better power adapter with at least 2Amp output.
