This is how Digi is improving its indoor 4G coverage

As Digi expands its 4G network, they have not forgotten its users that spend most of their time indoors. If you’ve been having poor signal at home or while at work, that will soon change in the second half of 2017.

In Malaysia, most 4G LTE operators including Digi are running on 1800MHz and 2600MHz frequencies. At higher frequency, these two bands can provide higher capacity but they are not great at penetrating walls. As a result, you probably struggle to get good 4G signal indoors. After the recent spectrum reallocation by MCMC, Digi and U Mobile finally have access to 900MHz which can be used to improve coverage.

With 900MHz, it can provide a wider footprint compared to 1800MHz and 2600MHz which translates to wider 4G coverage nationwide. The lower frequency also provides better penetration through walls which allow you to enjoy better signal indoors.

According to Digi, they will be rolling this out beginning July until the year end. During this phase, they will be fine tuning and optimising their 900MHz spectrum on their network. With all 3 bands (900MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz) accessible, Digi can potentially push for faster download speeds through carrier aggregation.
