HTC U11: The shiny and squeezable flagship has arrived in Malaysia

UPDATE: HTC U11 pre-order is now available in Malaysia.

The all new HTC U11 is finally here in Malaysia and it’s their new flagship smartphone that replaces its current HTC 10. Not only it has top rated specs, the U11 is also the world’s first squeezable phone made possible by HTC Edge Sense.

Since it carries the “U” branding, the U11 comes with a shiny glass and metal design like its current HTC U Ultra. It’s more refined than before with the use of 3D glass for both front and back for a more symmetrical look. The front gets a 5.5″ QuadHD SuperLCD 5 display and it comes with the usual home/fingerprint sensor and capacitive buttons combo at the bottom.

Under the hood, it runs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor which puts it on par with other new flagships in the market. For the Malaysia, HTC is pushing things up a notch by offering 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage instead of the usual 4GB RAM + 64GB storage offering in other markets.

In terms of audio, HTC has upgraded its BoomSound HiFi for better clarity and volume. Like its current U series, it lacks a headphone jack but HTC has introduced an improved USonic earphones that now comes with active noise cancellation. It is self-powered via USB Type-C which makes it lightweight and comfortable for extended use. Also included is a USB Type-C to 3.5mm adapter that’s enhanced with a built-in DAC.

In the camera department, the HTC U11 has the highest rated smartphone camera by DxoMark. The rear gets a 12MP f/1.7 UltraPixel 3 camera that comes assisted with OIS and dual pixel AutoFocus. Meanwhile, the front gets a higher resolution 16MP shooter. With its four built-in mics, you can capture videos with 3D audio for a more immersive sound.

Of course, the biggest highlight is its squeezable edge sense. Utilising the lower portion of the phone’s frame, you can customise short and long squeezes to launch your favourite apps or specific functions. The squeeze force can be adjusted manually according to your preference.

The U11 gets a 3,000mAh battery and it charges via USB Type-C with QuickCharge 3.0 fast charging supported. It also gets dust and water resistance rated at IP67.

For the Malaysian market, the HTC U11 is officially priced at RM3,099 and it will be available by end June 2017. Maxis will be the exclusive telco partner for the HTC U11 in Malaysia. To secure your U11, pre-orders will be available through Lazada, 11street, Maxis and HTC Malaysia’s Facebook page. As a pre-order promo, buyers will be getting an exclusive U11timate box set which comes with exclusive HTC merchandise while stocks last.

For now, they are offering 3 colour options- Amazing Silver, Sapphire Blue and Brilliant Black. The unique Solar Red colour option isn’t available yet but HTC Malaysia might offer that sometime later.
