Nokia is finally back in Malaysia with 3 Android smartphones

HMD Global has officially announced 3 new Nokia smartphones in Malaysia. In case you didn’t know, HMD Global is a new startup based in Finland and they have a 10-year licensing agreement to produce Nokia branded phones.

For this new revival, the new Nokia is focused on real life experiences rather than hardcore specs. To stand out from the crowd, the new Nokia aims to deliver premium phones with pure Android experience without the bloatware. On top of that, the Nokia brand promises regular monthly updates to keep your device up to date. Design is also a key focus for them and consumers can expect premium feeling phones at every price point.

Nokia 6

Sitting at the top of the range is the Nokia 6. It features a 5.5″ Full HD display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass on top. For better audio, it has pair of speakers and a smart amp (TFA9891) that are Dolby Atmos certified. For an upmarket build, the Nokia 6 is crafted from a single block of 6,000 series aluminium.

Under the hood, the Nokia 6 runs on a Snapdragon 430 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage. There’s also a special Nokia 6 in Arte Black version that comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Both models are expandable via microSD up to 128GB.

In terms of optics, it gets a 16MP f/2.0 main camera and an 8MP f/2.0 selfie shooter with Auto Focus. It is powered by a 3,000mAh battery which charges via MicroUSB 2.0. It runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and Nokia promises monthly updates to keep your phone secure.

The Nokia 6 is priced at RM999 and it will be on sale beginning end June 2017. 4 colours will be available – Matte Black, Silver, Tempered Blue and Copper. The Nokia 6 Arte Black version is a limited edition device and HMD Global will announce its availability later.

Nokia 5

Hitting the middle ground is the Nokia 5. It comes with a 5.2″ HD 720p display that’s also protected by Gorilla Glass. It runs on a Snapdragon 430 processor but with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. Like the Nokia 6, it also gets a unibody 6,000 series aluminium body for a more upmarket feel.

The Nokia 5 gets a 13MP f/2.0 main camera and a front-facing 8MP f/2.0 auto focus selfie shooter. The battery capacity remains unchanged with a 3,000mAh unit that charges via microUSB. Like Nokia 6, it also runs on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS.

The Nokia 5 is officially priced at RM799 and it will be available by end of June 2017 with 4 colours – Matte Black, Silver, Tempered Blue and Copper.

Nokia 3

The Nokia 3 is the most affordable of the lot. Instead of a unibody metal design, it uses an aluminium frame while the body is made from polycarbonate. The front comes with a modest 5″ HD 720p display and under the hood it runs on a MediaTek 6737 processor. It comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage that’s also expandable via microSD.

For taking pictures, the rear features an 8MP f/2.0 shooter while the front still retains an 8MP f/2.0 autofocus camera. The battery is smaller at 2,630mAh capacity. Out of the box, it runs on Android 7.0 Nougat. Despite its lower price, it still comes with your essential sensors and connectivity such as an accelerometer, gyroscope, USB OTG and NFC.

The Nokia 3 is officially priced at RM599 and it also comes in 4 colours – Matte Black, Silver, Tempered Blue and Copper. The Nokia 3 will go on sale beginning mid-June

At the moment, HMD Global is focused towards on ground sales channels and they plan to explore online sales sometime in the future. For service and support, there are 6 listed Nokia Mobile Care Centres in Peninsular Malaysia and plan to expand this further. They are located in Petaling Jaya, Penang, Ipoh, Kota Bahru, Melaka and Johor Bahru.

Apart from these 3 Android smartphones, HMD Global has also announced its new 3310 for the Malaysian market. It is officially priced at RM239 and it will be available beginning 1st week of June. More details here.
