The most affordable Snapdragon 835 powered flagship smartphone appears to be coming to Malaysia real soon. The Xiaomi Mi 6, which was launched exactly a month ago has finally passed our local certification.
A new Xiaomi device was recently spotted under SIRIM’s database with the model number MCE16. This is confirmed to be the Mi 6 flagship device and it could be an indication that a local launch could be around the corner.
To recap on the device, the Mi 6 is a compact flagship smartphone with a 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor that’s mated with 6GB LPDDR4x RAM across the range. You get a choice of either 64GB or 128GB of storage which isn’t expandable.
Over at the front, it gets a 5.15″ Full HD display while the back features a glossy 4-way 3D glass back. For taking pictures, Xiaomi is doubling up on its rear camera with a pair of 12MP cameras. The main 12MP f/1.8 camera takes normal shots with assistance from its 4-axis Optical Image Stabilisation while the secondary 12MP f/2.6 shooter does 2X Optical zoom. For selfies, it gets an 8MP front camera.
The Mi 6 lacks a headphone jack but a Type-C to 3.5mm adapter is provided in the box. Powering the device is a 3,350mAh battery that charges quickly via USB Type-C. For ease of unlocking, it also gets a snappy fingerprint sensor at the front that’s embedded underneath its front glass panel. The Mi 6 also gets stereo speakers that utilise both the earpiece and the bottom firing loudspeaker.
In China, the Mi 6 64GB version is going for 2,499CNY (about RM1,571) while the 128GB storage option is priced at 2,899CNY (RM1,822). It’s more affordable than its current Mi Note 2 128GB Global edition that’s priced at 3,499CNY (RM2,199) in China and it’s currently going for RM2,499 in Malaysia.
For those who can’t wait, grey importer directD is selling the Mi 6 from RM2,299 for the base 64GB version. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out our hands-on and first impressions here.
