UPDATE: The LG G6 officially goes on sale in Malaysia on the first week of May.
The LG G6 is one of the most interesting flagships to be announced at MWC 2017. It has a large 5.7″ QuadHD+ display in a 18:9 aspect ratio which gives it a small phone feel despite having a larger phablet sized display.
If you’ve been eyeing for this device, it looks like you won’t need to wait too long before it hits the Malaysian market officially.
UPDATE: The LG G6 is officially priced at RM2,999 for the 64GB storage version. It will be available in Malaysia starting the first week of May 2017 and LG is giving away a flip case worth RM174 while stocks last. 3 colours will be available – Astro Black, Ice Platinum and Mystic White.
The new LG G6 was spotted on our local SIRIM certification database which is an indication that it could be available for sale in Malaysia very soon. From the certification listing, the device with the model LG-H870DS will be distributed by Watta Energy (M) Sdn. Bhd. According to their website, Watta Energy was appointed by LG Electronics Singapore in August last year as the distributor for LG feature phone and smartphones for the Malaysian market.
While LG’s smartphone business has been rather quiet in Malaysia, the situation might be different this year with this new distributor. Interestingly, the LG V20 was also certified by SIRIM under the company in December last year but it has yet to go on sale officially in Malaysia.
To refresh your memory on the specs, the LG G6 runs on a Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB of RAM and it comes with a choice of either 32GB or 64GB of storage. For optics, it retains a dual-camera 13MP set up which uses one for wide-angle shots while the other is used for narrow shots. Powering the device is a 3,300mAh battery which is now non-removable but you do get IP68 dust and water resistance. You still get a microSD expansion slot and it charges via USB Type-C supporting Quick Charge 3.0. To can learn more about the LG G6 in our first impressions.
If you’re looking for a big screen in a small phone form factor without a curved display, the LG G6 could be your cup of tea. Hopefully, it is priced more competitively against its current rival, the Galaxy S8. For those who can’t wait, grey import units are now going for RM3,099.
