With the number of Samsung Galaxy S8 leaks we’ve seen so far, we are wondering if there are any surprises left for next Wednesday. Serial leakster @evleaks is still dropping more leaks of the Galaxy S8 and now we have a “press render” visual of the back of the device.
Confirming the leaks we’ve seen earlier, the Galaxy S8 will definitely have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Like the Note7, it will feature dual curved glass panels for both front and back which looks symmetrical from the sides. In case you didn’t notice, Samsung is also adding an extra side button which will be used to activate Bixby, their new personal AI assistant which aims to take on Google Assistant and Google Now.
To recap what we know so far, the Galaxy S8 will come with a 5.8″ screen while the Galaxy S8+ will feature a larger 6.2″ display using a SuperAMOLED panel. The front of the Galaxy S8 will be mostly screen and as a result, they have removed its iconic home and capacitive buttons. For better single-hand use, the flagship duo will feel skinnier as it uses a 18:9 display aspect ratio similar to LG’s new G6. In terms of colours, @evleaks has revealed at least 3 options – Black Sky, Orchid Grey and Arctic Silver.
Under the hood, the Galaxy S8 will either run on Samsung’s new Exynos 9 or Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 835 processor. Both are based on a 10nm process which should provide better power and thermal efficiency. For most markets, both phones will come with 4GB RAM and a minimum of 64GB storage. There are speculations that Samsung might release a 6GB RAM model for the Chinese market.
For photography, the Galaxy S8/S7+ are expected to retain a 12MP dual-pixel main camera but it’s said to be further improved with a newer DRAM embedded image sensor that’s capable of shooting 1000fps slow-mo videos. The front selfie camera is said to be bumped up from 5MP to 8MP and it also comes with additional cameras and sensors for improved iris recognition. The Galaxy S8 uses USB Type-C and oh yes, it still has a headphone jack.
The Galaxy S8/S8+ will be unveiled at 11:00AM in New York on 29 March, which is 11:00PM Malaysian time on the same day. We will be there at the event, so stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates.
