OPPO’s next selfie expert to come with dual-front cameras

OPPO has recently put more emphasis on its rear camera with the release of the R9s and R9s Plus. Its 16MP main camera uses a newer Sony IMX398 sensor and it focuses quicker thanks to its Dual PDAF technology.

Not wanting to leave its “Selfie Expert” title behind, the Chinese smartphone brand is about to release a new successor for its OPPO F1 series and it will come with dual front cameras.

OPPO is said to be launching its new F3 series and it is expected to launch at the end of this month. The key highlight, of course, is its front cameras which now consist of a 16MP selfie shooter that’s accompanied by a secondary 8MP unit. This is possibly used for bokeh effects for portrait shots which is similar to the vivo V5 Plus that comes with a 20MP + 8MP front camera combo.

There will be two models – a standard OPPO F3 and a bigger Plus model. In terms of specs, a leaked OPPO F3 Plus spec sheet has listed a 6″ Full HD display and it runs on a Snapdragon 653 processor with 4GB of RAM. It would come with 64GB of internal storage that’s expandable via microSD up to 256GB. Powering the device is a 4,000mAh battery and it runs on ColorOS 3.0 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Overall, it is quite similar to the R9s Plus except for the RAM and cameras.

OPPO has been enjoying tremendous success with its selfie-centric approach and they would definitely want to repeat that again for 2017. They are currently ranked #4 worldwide by Strategy Analytics and they rank #2 in Malaysia according to shipment numbers by IDC. The new OPPO F3 and F3 Plus are expected to launch by the end of this month and both could be heading for Malaysia.

Are front selfie cameras a big deal to you? Or would you rather get a smartphone with dual main cameras that offer 5X Zoom? Let us know in the comments below.
