Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Plus spec sheet has leaked

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 isn’t even launching until the end of March, but thanks to leakster Evan Blass (aka @evleaks), we have a list of what looks like the official specs for Samsung’s latest flagship — the S8+. Here are the details.

At first glance, it doesn’t look like a radical update as the new phone will come with what looks like fairly similar specs to the current S7 edge. It still has 4GB of RAM, IP68 water resistance and wireless charging. It still runs Android, supports Samsung Pay, has a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel camera and will still support external memory expansion via a microSD card (no mention of UFS compatibility, but here’s to hoping there is).

However, if you look a little closer, you’ll see some pretty significant upgrades. First off, it looks like the phone will take after the Note7 (a moment of silence, please) and have 64GB of internal storage as standard plus an Iris Scanner. Then, you get an upgraded 8-megapixel selfie camera, up from the outgoing 5MP unit. And finally, you see the biggest change — one we already saw coming — the massive 6.2-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED Display. Oh, and it’s also 4G LTE capable.

Besides that, it looks like Samsung is cashing in on their USD8 billion acquisition of Harman/Kardon by shipping the phone with  “earphones tuned by AKG”.

What isn’t mentioned, however, is the processor though we have an inkling that it will be called the Exynos 9810. There’s also no mention of the battery size in this latest leak, however, previous rumours have indicated that it will be a conservative 3,000 mAh to 3,500 mAh.

Rounding up the rumours, Samsung’s new device will allegedly come in two sizes, a smaller 5.8-inch S8 and this 6.2-inch S8+. The front display is also rumoured to be near bezel-less, doing away with the capacitive keys plus physical home button you usually find on the front of Samsung’s devices. The handset’s fingerprint sensor will also allegedly see a move to the back, next to the camera module, and the phone will also charge via USB Type-C.

As usual, none of these specs have been officially confirmed by Samsung, but @evleaks has been pretty reliable with his leaks thus far. Still, take it with a grain of salt.
