Japan’s a beautiful country with gorgeous sights and a fascinating culture. But, if you don’t speak/read the language, it can be an incredibly tricky place to traverse.
The good news is that you probably won’t have to do that anymore because Google‘s announced that Japanese will be the 30th language supported by their awesome Word Lens.
With Word Lens, one of Google Translate‘s many features, all you have to do to translate a phrase on say a signboard is to just launch the Translate app on your phone, tap the camera button, hold up your phone to a signboard and you’re set. Before instant Word Lens, you’d have to take a photo of the sign then translate it, but with this, you just need to hold your camera up to the sign and you’re golden.
Further, Google’s Translate app also lets you download Google’s vast language pack for the Japanese language straight to your phone. This lets you make the instant translations without needing an internet connection.
You can download the Google Translate app on both iOS and Android.
