Will Samsung really put a larger capacity battery in the S8?

We saw, in an extensive leak a few days ago, that Samsung might be playing it safe with the battery capacities on their upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphones. That makes sense, but a recent report surfaced which claims that Samsung’s new flagship devices may instead have bigger cells than their predecessors.

After what happened with the Galaxy Note7, Samsung’s probably a little nervous about their batteries. Although the apology seemed sincere and the fix seemed effective, when a leak surfaced that the new S8s, despite being bigger, would have a smaller battery than the S7s, nobody really batted an eyelash.

However, both SamMobile and GSMArena picked up a report from ITCLE.com (that has since been taken down) stating that Samsung has provided their battery suppliers, Samsung SDI, and that roadmap includes a 3,250 mAh and a 3,750 mAh battery — that’s more than the 3,000 mAh and 3,600 mAh cell on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge devices respectively.

Is it feasible? Yes, definitely, considering all the leaks hint towards larger Galaxy S devices (5.8 inches and 6.2 inches), it should have been more surprising that Samsung’s new duo would have smaller cells instead. That said, the whole fiasco with Samsung’s flagship phablet Note7 will undoubtedly put some customers on edge when they hear bigger battery in a similarly sized smartphone.

Either way, we don’t have that much longer to wait as Samsung is apparently going to be showing off their new devices on March 29th at the company’s Unpacked event.

Now, this new report is still a rumour and we have no way of confirming or debunking it so I suggest that you take it with a grain of salt. But, it still poses an interesting question:

Would you rather Samsung play it safe with a smaller battery or would you rather they stick with this allegedly bigger cell? Let me know in the comments below.
