The Redmi 3S is the cheapest Xiaomi phone you can buy officially but it costs RM599. If you’re looking for something even more affordable, Xiaomi Malaysia could be introducing a new entry-level smartphone by the end of this month.
Lazada Malaysia which currently operates Mi Malaysia’s online store is running a giveaway where you’ll need to guess the name of the new Redmi device. The clue points to the coordinates 4A which is the name of their budget Redmi 4A smartphone. Their campaign ends on 17 January and we expect the new Redmi model to be revealed soon.
The Redmi 4A is the base model of its new Redmi 4 series that was announced late last year. Similar to the Redmi 3S, it gets a 5″ 720p display but it lacks a fingerprint sensor at the rear. Instead of a Snapdragon 430 Octa-Core processor, the Redmi 4A gets a Snapdragon 425 Quad-Core unit that’s mated to 2GB of RAM. It also has 16GB of on-board storage which can be expanded up to 128GB extra via a dual-SIM hybrid slot.
It also comes with a 13MP f/2.2 main camera while the front features a 5MP f/2.2 selfie shooter. Keeping the lights on it s a modest 3,120mAh battery that charges via microUSB. In Xiaomi’s home ground in China, the Redmi 4A is priced at 499CNY which is about RM322 but we reckon it could be priced higher between RM400-RM500 when it gets here.
