honor 6X with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is coming to Malaysia

At CES 2017, Huawei’s e-commerce centric brand, honor, has announced its global debut of its honor 6X smartphone. This replaces the former honor 5X which makes it a mid-range device positioned below the honor 8.

The honor 6X was originally launched for the Chinese market in October and it’s finally making its way to international markets including Malaysia. Improving from the honor 5X, the new smartphone gets a rounded metal back for a smoother and comfortable feel in the hands. The front retains the same 5.5″ Full HD resolution display and it runs on a 16nm Kirin 655 Octa-Core processor.

The honor 6x comes in two spec variants. The base model gets 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage while the high-spec model gets 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage. For imaging, the honor 6x stands out with its dual-camera lens sticking out from the rear. However, unlike its honor 8 and Huawei P9, it has a primary 12MP main camera for regular shots and a second 2MP shooter for bokeh effects. Using the wide aperture range mode, you can create depth of field effects by adjusting the aperture size on the camera interface. Meanwhile, the front gets an 8MP selfie camera that comes with a host of beautification features.

With an efficient Kirin 655 processor and a low voltage display, the honor 6X’s 3,440mAh battery is rated to last an average 2.15 days on a single charge or 1.5 days with heavy usage. Charging is still done via microUSB and it comes with a standard 5V/2A charger. At the moment, the honor 6X is running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and it will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat in Q2 2017.

In the US, the honor 6X is priced at US$249 (about RM1,118) for 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and US$299 (about RM1,343) for the higher 4GB RAM + 64GB storage option.

During the launch, it was announced that the device will go on sale internationally beginning 4th January 2017. For Malaysia, we are told that our official pricing and availability will be announced sometime later.

Compared to the honor 5X, the new 6X is priced noticeably higher and that’s due to its better hardware. The honor 5X which came with a Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage was priced at RM899 for the standard colours and RM939 for the gold edition. For an extra RM200-400, the new honor 6X offers a better build, up to twice the amount of RAM and up to 4 times the amount of storage. For more info, check out the honor 6X product page.
