With the full ASUS ZenFone 3 family hitting the market, the Taiwanese maker is about to release another smartphone that focuses on photography. Looking at the current lineup, this could be the successor of its current ASUS ZenFone Zoom.
The name for the ASUS Z01HD model has yet to be confirmed but it is speculated to be called the ZenFone 3 Zoom. From TENAA’s certification photos, the new device will get dual camera lens at the back in an all-metal body. Instead of a dual-periscope mechanism with 3X Optical Zoom of the original model, the new ZenFone Zoom could follow the footsteps of the iPhone 7 Plus by relying on an optical Telephoto lens on its secondary shooter.
Spec-wise, it will get a 5.5″ Full HD AMOLED display and it is likely to run on a 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 processor with options for 2GB to 4GB of RAM. Surprisingly, the storage is listed between 16GB to 64GB and we reckon ASUS will be packing more since the current model has 128GB storage on board. The rear gets a 16MP shooter while the front is listed with a 13MP camera. Keeping the lights on is a rather large 4,850mAh capacity battery.
Looking at the sides, it is surprising that it lacks any dedicated camera shutter buttons like the current ZenFone Zoom. All it gets is a side power and volume rocker buttons.
The new device is expected to be revealed at its upcoming Zennovation event at CES 2017. It is happening on 4th January at 11:30AM PST (3:30AM 5th January Malaysian time).
