Apple has confirmed that several iPhone 6s units are having a battery defect which causes it to shut down unexpectedly. When the announcement was made, there’s no way to check if your unit is affected and you’re required to check with your nearest Apple service centre on ground. Now Apple has made it easier and you can check it online.

They have updated their iPhone 6s battery support page with a serial number checker. To find out what’s your serial number, just go to Settings > General > About as pictured below.

If your unit is affected, you may proceed to visit your nearest authorised service provider to replace the battery. As mentioned before, make sure you’ve performed a full backup and a full reset of the device before sending your iPhone 6s in.

If your iPhone 6s is on the list and you have replaced the battery at your own cost, you may also contact Apple directly for a refund. This replacement program is for the iPhone 6s and it does not include the iPhone 6s Plus or its older iPhone 6.
