The Huawei Mate 9 is also getting a budget alternative. A newer Huawei Mate 9 Lite has just appeared on its website and it also comes with a rear dual-camera set up.
The Mate 9 Lite is a slightly smaller device with a 5.5″ display that does Full HD resolution. Under the hood, it gets a mid-range Kirin 655 Octa-Core processor with 2 spec combinations available – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage.
At the rear, you’ll find a dual-camera setup but it’s different from its higher-end Mate 9 siblings. It isn’t LEICA certified and it uses a main 12MP camera while a secondary 2MP camera is used for bokeh effects. The camera boast a 1.25 micron pixel size with PDAF assistance. Meanwhile, the front gets an 8MP shooter for selfies.
The Mate 9 Lite also features a fingerprint sensor at the rear and keeping the lights on is a decent sized 3,340mAh battery. Out of the box, it runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow but with its current EMUI 4.1 skin on top. The Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro are running on a newer EMUI 5.0.
There are no pricing details yet but it should be way below the Mate 9’s RM2,699 asking price.
