The new Samsung Gear S3 smartwatches are finally rolling out. It is now on sale in South Korea and it will be made available in others markets such as such as Australia, France, Germany, Singapore, UK and US beginning 18 November.
Succeeding its first round smartwatch, the Gear S2, the new versions retain a similar design that comes with a rotating bezel. Announced at IFA 2016, the Gear S3 comes in two variants, the Gear S3 Classic and the Gear S3 Frontier. The screen on the Gear S3 is now slightly bigger at 1.3″ and it pushes the same 320×320 resolution on an AMOLED panel that’s protected with Gorilla Glass SR+. You can also tell the time at any moment with its always-on display in colour.
The Gear S3 classic edition gets a contemporary design with rounded buttons at the sides. Meanwhile, the frontier version gets a sporty look with rugged buttons and it also MIL-STD-810G certification for greater peace of mind. Both models are IP68 water resistant rated and they both have built-in GPS, heart rate sensor and a loud speaker to make and receive voice calls.
To support Samsung Pay fully, the latest Gear S3 also supports MST payment. This allows you to pay over magnetic strip based credit card readers from your wrist. In terms of battery, the Gear S3 now has a 380mAh unit which is rated to last 3-4 days on a single charge.
From the looks of it, we won’t have to wait too long for the Gear S3 to arrive in Malaysia. Both the SM-R760 (Frontier) and SM-R770 (Classic) have already passed our Malaysian SIRIM certification.
