Casio launches a rugged action camera and a delicate selfie shooter in Malaysia

Today, Casio launched two new cameras in Malaysia — the Casio EX-FR200 and EX-ZR5000. Here are the details.

Casio EX-FR200

Casio’s new EX-FR200 is the sequel to their previous rugged action camera, the FR100. As far as specifications are concerned, the FR200 features a 21.14-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor paired with a 1.35mm f/2.8 aperture lens. This gives the FR200 a super-wide fish eye field of view.

With that, you can capture four different types of scenes including Dome View, 360-degree panoramas, 208-degree super wide angles and if you strap two cameras back-to-back you can also capture a full 360-degree image.

Casio also updated the FR200’s software so now you can shoot 4K videos at 30fps, Full HD videos at up to 60fps and slowmo 120fps footage at 720p.

The camera itself comes with two components, the body unit and the detachable lens/camera unit which can be used independently from the body. FR200’s body unit is basically a detachable remote with an LCD screen designed to be a Visual Communication Gear.

This gives you a variety of shooting styles including “camera style”, “selfie style” and “separate style”. It also supports Bluetooth Smart for quick file transfers.

Since it’s an action camera, the FR200 can take quite a beating as it comes with a shock resistance to withstand falls from up to 1.3m. It’s also dust and water resistant up to 1.7m without a housing (1.5m for the LCD monitor), as well as freeze proof.

The cost of all this? Well, the Casio EX-FR200 is priced at RM2,399 and is expected to go on sale here by the end of the month. For the price, Casio will bundle the controller, a hinge unit, a lens cap, a tripod nut, a carabiner strap, a USB-AC adaptor, an AC power cord and a microUSB cable with the camera.

Casio EX-ZR5000

Alongside the FR200 action cam, Casio also launched the EX-ZR5000 digital camera that’s designed to take wide-angled photos and selfies.

As a result, it’s got a 12.76-megapixel 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor that captures 12MP stills and can record up to Full HD videos at 30fps. It’s also got a wide 19mm equivalent zoom lens with 5x optical zoom.

The EX-ZR5000 also has a tick up its sleeve and that’s called the Wide View Photo where the camera essentially takes 2 photos — a wide angled one and a telephoto one — and combines them together with a fancy animation that shows the switch between both images.

What’s more, when you’ve taken the telephoto lens, the focus and framing remains on your subject so you can then recompose the wide-angle photo during the second half of this feature.

It’s also got a beautify feature that hides blemishes for the perfect selfie, as well as a screen that flips up so for easy framing when taking a selfie.

But that’s not all as the EX-ZR5000 is also a quick little digital camera. It comes with Casio’s EXILIM Engine HS Ver. 3 that allows it to start up in just 1.2 seconds, autofocus in just 0.17 seconds and have a quick shutter response of 0.015 seconds.

What’s more, you can capture 12MP burst photos up to 30fps for a maximum of 30 shots. If the AF Burst Shooting mode is on, you can get 6fps (max 30 shots) while focusing on a moving subject too.

The Casio EX-ZR5000 is priced at RM1,949 and is also expected to be available for purchase by the end of the month.
