Finally! GoPro has unveiled the successor to the HERO4 Black and Silver — the GoPro HERO5 Black. In a nutshell? It’s sort of like GoPro took the best of both HERO4s and combined them into a waterproof shell. Here are the details!
GoPro HERO5 Black
GoPro’s HERO5 Black comes with a myriad of new features that includes a 2-inch touch sensitive display that’s beginner friendly (like on the HERO4 Silver) plus the ability to take 4K video at 30fps (like the HERO4 Black). See what I mean about combining the two? Well that’s not all because the HERO5 Black is also waterproof up to 10 metres without the need of a case. For some juicy slow-mo action, the HERO5 Black can also shoot 1080p at 120fps.
What’s more, the little action camera can take 12-megapixel photos (in RAW too), has built-in GPS and electronic image stabilisation — which is a first for the HERO line. Besides that, the HERO5 Black will also come with a voice control system that can recognise 7 languages at launch with more on the way.
GoPro HERO5 Session
Alongside the HERO5 Black, GoPro also announced the GoPro HERO5 Session, which is an upgrade to the tiny cube-shaped HERO4 Session I personally loved. This new HERO5 Session has been beefed up, though, as it can now shoot 4K videos in glorious 30fps. It’s also capable of taking 10-megapixel stills and is similarly waterproof to the HERO5 Black and will have support for voice commands too.
GoPro has also added a brand new cloud service called GoPro Plus. With this, whenever a user’s HERO5 camera is plugged into a power source to charge, it will automatically upload its content (both photo and video) to the cloud via a WiFi connection. This lets users store and access all of their content remotely for easy editing and sharing.
However, users will have to pay a subscription fee of USD5 (about RM20) per month to get the full experience but this could be pretty valuable for those who want to keep their memories safe.
The GoPro HERO5 Black will go on sale for USD399 (about RM1,650) while the HERO5 Session will be priced at USD299 (around RM1,235).
