Huawei introduces its new Nova smartphone series

Huawei has seen tremendous growth in the high-end segment especially with its current Huawei Mate 8 and P9 series. Focusing on premium design and build quality has paid off for the Chinese brand and now they are bringing a new touch of premium to the mid-range segment with its new Nova series.

During their event at IFA 2016, Huawei has officially announced the Nova and Nova Plus. Both comes with an all-metal unibody design and a smooth 2.5D glass which give them an upmarket feel. Instead of using their in house Kirin processors, both Nova devices run on a 14nm 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 processor that’s mated to 3GB of RAM.

Both gets 32GB of onboard storage that is expandable up to 128GB extra via microSD. Out of the box, they run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the latest EMUI 4.1.

The Huawei Nova is rather compact with a 5″ IPS display that pushes a full HD resolution. It looks like a baby Nexus 6P especially with its visor design at the back. Keeping the lights on is a 3,020mAh battery which charges via USB Type-C. For greater security, it also gets the same 4-layer fingerprint scanner from the Huawei P9 series.

For taking pictures, it features a 12MP f/2.2 camera at the rear with a larger 1.25 micron pixel size. It also gets OIS and PDAF assistance for better focusing. Over at the front, you’ll find an 8MP front camera that’s assisted by Beauty Skin 3.0 and Beauty Make-up 2.0 software enhancement. The Huawei Nova also comes with a set of DTS Headphones that are optimised for home theatre quality surround sound.

Meanwhile, the Nova Plus like the name suggests is the phablet sibling of the duo. The back of the phone looks nothing like the smaller Nova and it resembles closely with the Huawei G8. It gets a larger 5.5″ full HD display and a larger 3,340mAh battery which is rated to last more than 2 days. The camera on the Nova Plus is slightly different with a 16MP camera with OIS at the rear while the front has an 8MP shooter.

The Huawei Nova and Nova Plus are priced at 399 EUR (about RM1,825) and 429 EUR (RM1,962) respectively. Both devices will hit European markets starting in October before it is sold elsewhere. For further details, you can head over to the respective Huawei Nova and Nova Plus pages.
