It’s time to ditch your wires with WD’s latest storage solutions

When you’re in the creative business, storage is incredibly important. Not only do you want stable storage drives to keep your files safe, you also want the least complicated storage solutions so that your workflow is as simple as it can be.

With the Malaysian launch of Western Digital’s (WD) new My Passport Wireless Pro and My Cloud Pro, they’re looking to do exactly that.

The star of the show for us has to be the My Passport Wireless Pro. In essence, it’s a wireless mobile storage device that’s designed to eliminate cables and the hassle that comes with hooking stuff up.

WD’s new My Passport Wireless Pro supports 802.11ac dual-band WiFi (5GHz and 2.4GHz) for quick wireless transfers, which is useful when you’re shooting big conventions or fast-paced events. But if for whatever reason, you find yourself unable to wirelessly transfer files, the hard drive also has an SD 3.0 card reader and a USB 2.0 port.

Besides that, the My Passport Wireless Pro also claims to have a 10-hour battery life, courtesy of a 6,400 mAh battery. This battery can also double as an emergency powerbank and charge up your device with a 5V/1.5A current.

In terms of compatibility, the had disk is compatible with Adobe’s Creative Cloud and Plex Media Server for seamless video and photo editing and streaming.

For the Malaysian market, WD is bringing in the variant with 3TB of storage that will be priced at RM1,099. Unfortunately, you can’t buy it right now, but WD says that it will be available by the end of the month.

Next, we’ve got the My Cloud Pro NAS (network attached storage) which serves as your hub for mass storage. The My Cloud Pro was also designed with wireless simplicity in mind. It’s optimised to import files from your memory cards and USB storage devices at the touch of a single button.

What’s more, the NAS isn’t just for mass storage as it is equipped with a processor and a dedicated graphics processor for video transcoding when you’re streaming content up to 4K in resolution.

The NAS can be equipped with WD Red drives, which Western Digital says is the ideal for this purpose. The My Cloud Pro comes with multiple configurations for the two models — PR2100 (two bays) and PR4100 (four bays) — with storage options up to 32TB plus a two (without drives) or four-year (with drives) warranty.

My Cloud Pro PR2100 without hard disk – RM1,759
My Cloud Pro PR2100 4TB – RM2,699
My Cloud Pro PR2100 8TB – RM3,279
My Cloud Pro PR2100 12TB – RM4,229
My Cloud Pro PR2100 16TB – RM4,599

My Cloud Pro PR4100 without hard disk – RM2,589
My Cloud Pro PR4100 8TB – RM4,159
My Cloud Pro PR4100 16TB – RM5,749
My Cloud Pro PR4100 24TB – RM7,699
My Cloud Pro PR4100 32TB – RM7,999
