Move aside Mi Max, Huawei has just announced a phablet of monstrous proportions with its new honor Note 8. At 6.6″, this is the largest honor smartphone yet and it’s even bigger than the 6″ Huawei Mate 8. Even the name itself sounds like an attempt to “one up” the upcoming phablet from Korea.
Over at the front, the honor Note 8 gets a Quad HD AMOLED screen which pushes a rather high pixel density of 443 ppi. Powering the device is Huawei’s top of the line Kirin 955 processor that’s mated with 4GB of RAM. Design wise, it does look like a cross mix between a Huawei Mate 8 and the Nexus 6P.
In terms of storage, it gets at least 32GB on-board along with higher options of 64GB and 128GB that are expandable via microSD. Like most smartphone these days, it uses a hybrid dual-SIM slot which accepts either 2 nano-SIM or 1 nano-SIM with a microSD.
Unlike the smaller honor 8, the honor Note 8 gets a single 13MP camera instead of a dual camera set up. The design of the camera module at the rear does remind of us the Nexus 6P with its visor glass design. It also gets OIS and dual-LED flash for low light illumination. For selfies, the honor Note 8 gets an 8MP front shooter.
There’s also a fingerprint scanner at the back and powering the device is a large 4,500mAh battery which charges using USB Type-C. Overall, it weighs 219g but it still quite thin at 7.18mm. Out of the box, the honor Note 8 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with its EMUI skin on top.
In China, it will be available for sales on 9th August and the base model with 32GB storage is going for 2,299 CNY (about RM1,395). The 64GB model is priced at 2,499 CNY (about RM1,517) and the largest 128GB option is listed at 2,799 CNY (about RM1,699).
