iPhone 7 to have a larger battery than the iPhone 6s

There has been a lot of news about the new iPhone 7 and you’re probably going to see more as the device’s official launch creeps closer. This latest piece of information reveals a potential feature in the iPhone 7 that will undoubtedly delight iPhone users — the new iPhone is supposed to come with a larger battery.

The iPhone 6s doesn’t have a particularly large battery by today’s standards. Coming in at 1715 mAh, a battery of this size on an Android smartphone would be downright unacceptable. But, for us, the end consumers battery capacity doesn’t really matter. What we want is battery life and for the most part, Apple’s iPhones have stacked up reasonably well. Not great, just OK, in most use cases.

Now, according to OnLeaks, the new iPhone 7 is rumoured to come with a bigger 1,960 mAh battery which is about a 14% increase in capacity. Considering Apple’s ability to optimise the crap out of their devices, this bump in battery capacity could mean a significant boost in overall battery life.

According to 9to5Mac’s calculations, which are based on the iPhone 6s, the bump in battery capacity would translate to about an extra hour of battery life. But, that’s based on Apple’s current processor and smartphone. If we’re going off Apple’s track record, the new chip in the iPhone 7 would likely be a whole lot more efficient which should translate to a significant improvement in battery life.

Just take the iPhone SE for example. The overall capacity increase was minute but, based on our usage, battery life was noticeably better. A lot of that is down to the more efficient A9 processor.

Of course, this is all still speculation and there is no sure fire way to say whether there will be a noticeable improvement in battery life for the iPhone 7 or not. Even the rumour of the iPhone 7 having a larger battery is just a rumour, so take all of this with a dash of salt.
