iPhone 7 to have 32GB base storage instead of 16GB

If there is one thing even the most stalwart of Apple fans hate, it is the fact that the world’s most valuable brand is still producing 16GB iPhones. This is 2016, there is simply no justification for having a 16GB iPhone other than for it to be an open mockery of those who can’t afford the 64GB options.

“B-but there’s always iCloud!” stammers the iPhone fan, a trace of uncertainty in their voice because deep down, even they can’t live with a 16GB smartphone. Well, it looks like Apple is finally going to answer your prayers and do away with the 16GB base model for their upcoming iPhone 7, sticking to a more conventional 32GB storage option instead.

If true, this is definitely fantastic news for iPhone users. Long have I watched my friends suffer due to the lack of storage on their 16GB base model devices, struggling to take photos and videos, constantly deleting WhatsApp media and pulling their hair out in frustration as their device starts to lag.

You really have to wonder why Apple took this long to finally do away with the 16GB storage model. Most Android flagships have long ditched the 16GB base model because they know that 16GB simply isn’t enough for today’s standards. In fact, many flagship devices this year, including the ZenFone 3 Deluxe and OnePlus 3, have their base storage starting at 64GB instead.

Well, whatever the reason, it looks like Cupertino may finally be coming to their senses. The new iPhone 7 will allegedly come in 32GB/64GB/256GB storage variants with the more premium iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 “Pro” coming with 32GB/128GB/256GB storage variants.

That said, these are still only rumours and nothing has been officially confirmed. The new iPhone is expected to make an appearance this September but has been rumoured to not be radically different from the current iPhone 6s. Instead, the radical update (or tick update) has been allegedly saved for next year.
