Celcom says they are working towards building the most advanced 4G network in the country. To achieve that, they are undergoing a nationwide modernisation exercise with Ericsson Malaysia and Huawei Technologies. More than 4,600 communication towers will be upgraded with the latest 4G equipment and software.
During the upgrade process between June – September 2016, customers in the Klang Valley may experience interruptions ranging from weaker connections to zero coverage. According to Celcom, the interruptions would occur between 10AM to 5PM and they have contingencies in place to minimise downtime. This would include setting up temporary base stations using “Cells on Wheels” for outdoors and femtocells for indoor usage.

Celcom assures that the four-month exercise in the Klang Valley will provide customers with a better 4G network which include better connections, no buffering while streaming, faster speeds and seamless 4G signals from outside to inside buildings.
They are allocating RM2 billion into their network across 5 years which will prepare them for 4.5G and eventually it will be a base for future 5G. Celcom aims to achieve 95% 4G LTE coverage by 2020 as part of the government’s requirement.
