ASUS launches sub-RM1,000 ZenFone Pegasus 3

ASUS dominated the new product releases at Computex 2016, revealing a whole line of new tablets, laptops, 2-in-1s and of course the highly anticipated ZenFone 3.

But, all three ZenFone 3s fall into the more premium segment of the smartphone market. If you’re on a tighter budget but want a new ZenFone, perhaps the newly announced ASUS ZenFone Pegasus 3 is more your style.

The ZenFone Pegasus 3 slides into the entry-to-midrange smartphone market while retaining the full-metal unibody of the higher-end ZenFone 3 Deluxe and Ultra. It’s also got a 5.2-inch 720p display tucked under 2.5D curved glass.

Inside, the ZenFone Pegasus 3 sports a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6737 octa-core quad-core processor with memory options of either 2GB RAM/16GB storage or 3GB RAM/32GB storage. The good news is that internal storage is expandable via a microSD card.

You will also find a 13-megapixel rear-facing primary camera with an f/2.2 aperture lens and a front 5MP selfie shooter with an f/2.0 lens. Inside, it’s got a large 4,100 mAh battery to keep the lights on.

The ZenFone Pegasus 3 also comes with a support for dual-SIM 4GB 4G LTE connectivity with support for VoLTE calling. The handset will come running Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box with ASUS’s ZenUI 3.0 running on top. It also sports a fingerprint scanner on the back though it takes a more squarish shape than the rectangular one found on the ZenFone 3 and Deluxe.

ASUS’s ZenFone Pegasus 3 will be priced at CNY1,300 (around RM808) for the 2GB RAM variant while the 3GB version will be priced at CNY1,500 (around RM932). They’re not particularly cheap, but they are cheaper. That said, I would just add about RM100 more and get the regular ZenFone 3.
