The HP Elite x3 is a Win 10 phone built for biz

One of the latest members to join the Windows 10 Mobile family of phones, is the HP Elite x3. Its large, built for business and wants you to work with it.

These days when it comes to working on the go, the divide between laptops and smartphones are getting smaller as phones are just as competent workhorses as their larger counterparts. The HP Elite x3 is one such device, when combined with its accessory ecosystem only seems to become even greater.

In terms of specs, you’re looking at a rather large 5.96 inch mobile device, with a Snapdragon 820 at it’s core mated to 4GB RAM. It also sports a 16 MP rear and 8 MP front camera combo as well as a finger print, iris scanner for the paranoid and USB Type-C.

The display is a QHD AMOLED display with a 1440 x 2560 resolution. In terms of storage you’re getting a generous 64GB that’s extendable via microSD. As an added bonus, the phone uses a hybrid SIM slot, so it can support a dual-SIM setup if you need it.

While the Elite x3 isn’t much to look at, its accessories really make it shine. The Desk Dock allows you to connect an external monitor via DisplayPort, the HP Mobile Extender allows the phone to transform into a 12.5-inch HD laptop powered by Windows just by slotting it in. You can even use a mouse and keyboard while its connected to either Desk Dock or Mobile Extender laptop shell.

If you’re worried that your phone wasn’t particularly secure, the Elite x3 packs FIPS 140-2 cryptography, SecureBoot, 128-bit key Unified Image Encryption, 256-bit key Full Disk Encryption, Anti roll back and fTPM 2.0 security, and even 128 key Bitlocker encryption and Enterprise grade VPN.
Last but not least, the HP Elite x3 supports HP Workspace; an app “store” that sports virtualised apps made by HP. While it may not look particularly inspiring, and probably won’t entirely replace a laptop altogether, it definitely looks like a potential option for someone working on the go.
