Maxis is giving out RM1 million worth of apps on the Google Play Store

If you haven’t heard Maxis has added the option for direct billing for Play Store purchases. This is mighty helpful for those without credit and debit cards, being their only saving grace of purchasing anything on Google’s Android store. They’ll be throwing a little extra too to get you started on their Direct Billing system.

To get users jump started on the service, Maxis has just added some extra initiatives. One of which is allowing all Maxis/Hotlink users to receive an RM 5 discount when they use Direct Billing for the first time. This will apply for anything and everything that’s on sale on the Play Store in our region. This promotion will run for a month from the 22nd of January till the 21st of February 2016.

In conjunction with that RM 5 discount, Maxis/Hotlink will make it more worthwhile by allowing its Direct Billing users to be in the running to win a bill waiver worth RM 100 x 6 months or prepaid airtime credit – your entry is automatic when you make your first purchase on the Play Store with the Direct Billing option.

Winners will be notified through SMS or call and there will be a maximum of 4000 customers that could possibly win the fee waiver prize. Maxis will select winners every 200th customer who purchases an item on the Play Store using Direct Billing. The waiver promo will run only from the 22nd till the 29th of January, so be sure to make your first-time purchase during the window.

Those who used the Maxis Direct Billing before this announcement will still be entitled to the RM 5 discount since the promo has only begun.

Here’s how to setup your Google account to be tied to your Maxis Billing:

Remember when setting up the first time, you’ll have to make sure you’re connected to a Maxis/Hotlink data network (3G/4G) and you’re able to receive SMS. That’s the only way they can detect if you’re on their network in the first place. Any purchases/downloads that follow can utilise WiFi networks without hindering your direct billing. After doing so, you won’t have to repeat the steps as Maxis direct billing will now be your default payment method for anything on the Play Store.

When purchasing it’ll look something like this:

Keep in mind when using Maxis Direct Billing for Play Store purchases you’ll be required to pay an additional 6% GST for your purchases. For a full breakdown how Maxis’ Play Store Direct Billing works, check out our post here.
