Projectors, uhh. That word usually has no place in homes, unless it’s capable of delivering high-quality projections. Well, Sony’s latest projector doesn’t just do that but watching the video of its real-life applications will get your mouth to drop. Ours did.

Sony shows off how you can use it as a clock, a nightlight, a screen and even a weather display.

It appears as a sexy textured set top box in white – something straight out designer’s dream and comes from the Japanese manufacturer’s Life Space UX range of home electronics. Tiny in stature, this nifty projector can beam any image to surfaces around your home within short distances.

Portability makes this projector the best little thing to bring around if you want to beam stills and video onto tables, walls, floors and even paper. Its ability to be powered through batteries just opens up so many doors. That and it’s really small – 81mm x 131mm x 131mm.

The device requires two parts to work, the projector itself and the included wireless HDMI unit. How does it project content? Well the HDMI unit works by connecting to your media source, a PC, TV, smartphone or tablet, and it’ll wirelessly transmit the source to the projector that’ll blast it on surfaces.

Resolution-wise it’ll project at an auto-focused resolution of 1366 x 768. Equip with 100 lumens brightness and capable of putting up a projection between 22 and 80 inches. When your source device is near to the actual projector, it’ll be able to pick up media from it and connect through Bluetooth (4.0) Low Energy to display media automatically.

The battery is quoted at two hours of projection and it’ll take double that to charge it up fully. Sony’s projector also has built-in dual speakers for any accompanying audio in your videos. It’ll be compatible with Android (4.4 or later) or iOS 9 devices.

Sony’s Portable Ultra Throw Projector will retail for ¥ 92,500 (RM 3,503) and will be released on the 13th of February in Japan.

This isn’t the first time Sony puts a crazy price on things. Their 4K version of the same thing (shown above) goes for a whooping ¥ 5,000,000 – yes that’s RM 189,409. But you get a fancy cabinet set up thrown in.
