The annual worst passwords list is out. Is yours on the list?

SplashData has made a name of themselves for keeping your passwords safe. They’ve done so for 10 years. So they know what they’re doing.

But when they release their worst passwords list once a year, they put their users at risk – but really, why are you using “123456” as your password? If you fall in this category, change your password NOW.

It usually takes a lot of work if anyone were to try and hack their way into an account but if you’re going to use the passwords on this list, well, we can’t help you.

SplashData has released their fifth list of worst passwords and people are still sticking to the age old adage of sequential numbers in less or more denominations – e.g. “1234”, “12345”, “123456” and then on.

Engadget also pointed out that the choice of passwords reflects pop culture and current trends in sports. With worlds like Han “solo”, “princess” Leia and “starwars” added to this year’s list. The terms “football” and “baseball” also make up the list of top 25.

An old list from yesteryear

We’d suggest if any of your passwords match the list below, you should start being a little more creative. And by creative, we mean adding random symbols and using a mixture of uppercase and lowercase. Security breaches are becoming a norm and you don’t want hackers easily getting into your accounts by using any of the following:

1. “123456”
2. “password”
3. “12345678”
4. “qwerty”
5. “12345”
6. “123456789”
7. “football”
8. “1234”
9. “1234567”
10. “baseball”
11. “welcome”
12. “1234567890”
13. “abc123”
14. “111111”
15. “1qaz2wsx”
16. “dragon”
17. “master”
18. “monkey”
19. “letmein”
20. “login”
21. “princess”
22. “qwertyuiop”
23. “solo”
24. “passwOrd”
25. “starwars”
