Samsung lets your fingers do the talking

This time next week at CES 2016, the Korean tech giant will be letting loose some projects that were cooked up by their company’s engineers. These projects are basically pet projects that their best and brightest decided to take up when given some project-specific time off.

Samsung has released some small tidbits on what we’re to expect and so far they include:

A “smart” belt
An advanced hand-motion controller for VR games
A “smart” UX system that allows you to take calls with the tip of your finger

These innovative projects have been running under Samsung’s Creative Lab, an avenue for employees to build ideas from the ground up.

First of the bunch is WELT – a smart (literal) belt that allows its users to keep tabs on their waistline by analysing daily habits and behaviours. This makes a lot of sense since everyone wears a belt. WELT’s smart innards are discreet and won’t resemble anything other than a regular looking… belt.

WELT takes note of your waist size, eating frequencies, track steps and even notes your sedentary moments. Finally, the belt will go through all your data by sending it to its designated app and provide you with useful health related tips and plans. Who knows, maybe the engineer in charge will even steer us away from fast food joints by making the belt tighten itself based on GPS and geographical tagging places like KFC.

“rink” is the next project that lets you “take mobile VR to the next level”. The device itself is a hand-held motion controller that further explores the possibilities of virtual reality technology. Combine that with Samsung’s Gear VR and consumers might just enter these VR realms themselves.

We saved the best for last; here’s TipTalk, an amazing device that lets you play secret agent by allowing communication through a special watch strap and your fingertips. TipTalk allows its wearer to listen to sounds after pairing to smartphones, bringing your finger to your ear makes it seem like you’re suddenly wearing headphones.

Answer calls in public and don’t worry about having eavesdroppers, apparently Samsung says loud environments won’t impede TipTalk. This smart strap can be attached to analog, digital and smart watches – after which, it’ll sync to your phone, allowing you to take calls and listen to music by placing a finger on your ear.
