Qualcomm has just dropped some details about their new high end Snapdragon 820; after being hard at work fixing the issues that the infamous Snapdragon 810. The first details are about the graphical performance and the new image signal booster (ISP). They unfortunately haven’t given out anything else about the 64-bit chip, like its running temperature.
The Adreno 530 GPU has a leg up on its predecessor, the Adreno 430 GPU that was in the Snapdragon 810 with the aforementioned 40% increase in graphic capability according o benchmarks. It also has a nice 40% decrease in power consumption too, thanks to power gating that lets the GPU go faster to idle modes and save power. So this means in the long run you’ll get to play/watch more.
The GPU also includes OpenCL 2.0, OpenGL ES 3.1, the Android Extension pack as well as Renderscript with backwards compatibility. Video processing will be getting quite a boost as well thanks to the additional compute performance.
As for the new Spectra ISP, the company says that you will be getting better image quality; with a maximum supported resolution of 25 megapixels with 30 fps video recorded at max resolution. The new setup will also be able to handle multi-camera setups with up to three sensors working in tandem, an improved hybrid autofocus framework as well as more natural skin tone reproduction. The full list of improvements can be seen below.
