Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 edge+ Unpacked event confirmed on 13th August

For those longing for the next iteration of the Samsung Galaxy Note series, mark your calendar this 13th of August. Samsung has officially announced its next Unpacked event which is going to be held just slightly more than 2 weeks from now. The Galaxy Note series which has been traditionally announced during IFA in Berlin is currently held a month earlier in a bid to maximise its sales potential ahead of Apple’s upcoming announcement.

The launch will be streamed live as usual on their Samsung Mobile YouTube channel and it is happening at 11:00AM EDT which is at 11:00PM Malaysian Time.

Samsung is expected to announce 2 phablets – the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+, both of which are certified by Singapore’s certification body recently. Following the Galaxy S6, the new models will feature a similar metal and glass body construction and we’ve seen several leaked photos confirming this approach.

In terms of specs, the new Note 5 is expected to run on its newer all-in-one Exynos chip which is mated with 4GB of RAM. Instead of a Note “Edge” variant, the second device would be the S6 edge+, which is a larger and enhanced version of its current Galaxy S6 edge. While it looks the same on the outside, word has it that it will carry 4GB of RAM, a likely updated processor as well as a bigger battery capacity to power up its larger screen. Unfortunately for power users, we expect the new models to come without a removable battery and expandable microSD slot like its current Galaxy S6/S6 edge models.

If Samsung wants to outdo Apple in sales, they should be selling this fairly quickly and word has it that it could go to market as early as 21st August. We’ll find out for sure in a couple of weeks time. Wondering what to expect with the next Galaxy Note 5? You can check our previous posts.
