The upcoming Moto G 2015 will have some serious water resistance

If the upcoming Moto G isn’t impressive enough, it appears that they have something interesting up their sleeves. A dummy set of the 3rd gen Moto G for 2015 was spotted and it comes with the usual key selling features sticker at the front. Interestingly there’s an IPX7 icon which means it will be more water resistant than before.

While the icon indicates that it is resistant to rain, the IPX7 rating means that it has been certified to be submerged under 1 metre of water and for up to 30 minutes. This is similar to the HTC Re Camera that’s water resistant out of the box without the use of extra casing. Of course, it is also subject to the brand’s faith on its water resistance as we’ve seen how the Galaxy S5 and even the Apple Watch being discouraged from underwater use despite having sufficient resistance on paper.

Just to recap on what we know so far about the Moto G, it will retain most of the same specs as the previous model with a couple of updated tweaks. The front display is still a 5 incher with HD 720p resolution and it will run on a newer Quad-Core Snapdragon 410 processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage which can be expanded with microSD.

Word has it that a higher-spec 2GB RAM version would be introduced as well. In terms of imaging, the camera will be getting a bump to a 13MP main and a 5MP front selfie cam. It will be running on the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop and the battery is said to be a 2,470 mAh capacity. The Moto G will be announced next week on 28th July and it would be likely joined by a couple of new models including the Moto X.
