After tons of leaks, the Galaxy A8 is now official with a thickness of just 5.9mm. While it won’t break any new world records, the Galaxy A8 is the thinnest smart phone that Samsung has ever produced, beating its previous 6.3mm record on the Galaxy A7.
From the exterior design, it still maintains the same unibody approach like the rest of its Galaxy A series but the A8 inherits some design cues from their current flagship. For starters, the metal frame has some chiseled design and the front looks like a larger Galaxy S6. Even the home button has a fingerprint scanner which unlocks at a single touch.
With a bigger model number, the Galaxy A8 has a 5.7″ Full HD Super AMOLED display, which is 0.2″ larger than the Galaxy A7. Under the hood, it gets a similar Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa-Core processor (4x 1.5GHz, 4x 1.0GHz) that’s mated to 2GB of RAM and has 16GB or 32GB of on-board storage. The Galaxy A8 for China supports 4G LTE and it has dual-SIM slots, but the 2nd slot is a hybrid where it doubles up as a microSD slot which accepts up to 128GB capacity.
In the imaging department, the main shooter is a 16MP camera with f/1.9 that’s similar to the Galaxy S6. For the front, it gets a wide angle 5MP shooter. Double tapping the home button will launch the camera app at anytime and it also supports wide selfie as well.
With a larger screen, the Galaxy A8 gets a decent 3,050mAh capacity battery, which is about 17% larger than the Galaxy A7 which comes with a 2,600mAh unit. The Galaxy A8 is 10 grams heavier at 151g. For Malaysia, the Galaxy A8 was recently spotted in SIRIM’s database and word has it that it would be released with a RM1,888 price tag.
