If you happen to have a Google account and be using an Android phone you might be having a problem on your hands, as its just been discovered that Google Photos will keep uploading your photos to the cloud even if you’ve deleted the app.
This is mostly because if you are using a Google account (which most people on the internet are likely to own) the entire system has a habit of zealously syncing everything you do with said account to you devices and any other service you use. Considering this is a huge privacy concern because it pretty much affects any Android device, there’s thankfully a way to stop Google Photos from continuing to save your data to the cloud.
Google Photos is more of a viewing app that lets users look at images stored on their device and their account, with the service syncing to the cloud irrespective of whether or not you are actually using it. By right uninstalling the app should get it to stop, but Google loves data and it also loves storing it so you’re essentially stuck here. Personally we feel that leaving a data trail a mile wide is a huge problem, especially if you don’t feel comfortable with your device quietly doing stuff you don’t want it to. On the plus side, the photos won’t become public unless you personally review and approve them.
Luckily the solution is pretty simple. All you need to do is head over to your Settings, then to Accounts and finally Google. From there select your main Google account and uncheck the “Sync Photos” option to stop it in its tracks. Alternatively, you can do it within the Google Photos app itself before you get rid of it entirely.
