Redmi Note 2 passes certification and here’s how it looks like

The Redmi Note is dire need of a new successor and the Redmi Note 2 should be announced very soon. Just recently a new model has just passed TENAA, China’s certification body and this gives us the first dibs on what to expect with the upcoming affordable phablet.

In terms of design, it looks more squarish with a matte looking finishing similar to its current Mi 4i. The front still maintains a 5.5″ size screen but this time it pushes a Full HD display (1920×1080) with thinner bezels. The Redmi Note 2 is thinner too at 8.05mm and it weighs 159 grams, according to its certified specs in the database. As comparison, the original Redmi Note is thicker at 9.5mm and it weighs close to 200 grams.

The Redmi Note 2 is spotted with 2 variants, one with TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE, and another with more bands including WCDMA and FDD-LTE. Under the hood, they didn’t mention the type of processor but it is listed to be a 2GHz Octa-Core unit (likely MediaTek) that’s mated to 2GB of RAM. On-board it has a larger 16GB of storage which can be expanded with microSD. For its cameras, the Redmi Note 2 is listed to carry a 13MP main and a 5MP front unit, similar to the Mi 4i. From the back, the Redmi Note 2 maintains the same centre aligned placement for its camera and LED flash but this time it gets a circular lens design. The loud speaker has a longer grill placed at the bottom with a little stub that’s also similar to the Mi 4i. Like most new Xiaomi products, you can expect 4G LTE support on dual-SIM slots.

So far there’s no word on its availability yet, but who knows it might be announced alongside their brand new product this week.
