While the telcos are still sorting out its GST kinks with their reloads, consumers can expect more value thanks to heated competition that’s happening recently. After Celcom introduced its Xpax #MagicSIM, Digi has responded with its new Smart Prepaid with its starter pack priced at RM10.

Like most new prepaid offerings, Smart prepaid gives you free basic internet that allows you to use Facebook Lite, Twitter and web browsing at a throttled 64kbps. You also get unlimited social messaging on WeChat, WhatsApp, Line and Kakaotalk which includes sending photos and videos, but this excludes voice calls over the internet. The always-on internet trend was started by #Hotlink and while it’s slow, it acts as a safety net so that you won’t lose your credit to expensive pay per use charges.

If you prefer talking and texting, you can enjoy unlimited calls and SMS to 3 of your favourite Buddyz on Digi’s network which can be configured by dialling *128*1*8#. The RM10 starter pack comes with RM7 preloaded credit with 7 days validity. As a bonus, Digi is giving RM9 extra credit which will be reimbursed across 3 months after you’ve activated the SIM. Take note that the RM3 extra credit for the first 3 months has a validity of just 15 days.

In terms of rates, voice calls are charged at 30 sen/minute while SMS are charged at 8 sen each. Do note that the Free Lite Internet usage has a FUP (Fair Use Policy) of 1GB. If you need some serious data, you can top up add-ons from as little as RM1/day for 20MB of high speed quota or RM48/month for 3GB. For more info, visit Digi’s Smart Prepaid page.
